Why US is sliding toward statism. In 3 sentences.

Democrats could be more libertarian if they weren't beholden to special interest groups. Republicans could be more libertarian if they weren't beholden to the religious right. Libertarians could be more mainstream if they weren't beholden to the allure of a free society.

Democrats could never be more libertarian. Not in a million years. These days, they're even bad on civil liberties issues, like guns, seat belt laws, smoking bans, the draft, ect...

They moved from Liberal to horrible Socialist/Authoritarians.

There's hope for the GOP, particularly now with libertarian-leaning Giuliani running.

With the Libertarian Party it all depends on who they nominate for President. If it's a celebrity like Wayne Root or Doug Stanhope they have a fighting chance. If it's a Nobody like Steve Kubby or George Phillies, they're sunk.
